If you've been anywhere around the internet the past few years then you've heard "Content is King." You have, haven't you?
And in my humble opinion, if you have a king then you have to have a queen. So I took a stab at it today and came up with, " If Content is King, then Connections is Queen."
What do I mean by that?
CONTENT
Gary Vaynerchuk has been saying for years that you need to have "media company mentality" in regards to marketing.
This is a quote from GaryVee's website:
"Never before have brands and consumers had the ability to create and consume content at scale. Because of the iPhone and the internet, and social media, anyone can produce and distribute. Just 15 years ago, if you wanted to create a commercial to promote your brand, you would need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on media and marketing. Today, you can literally use your smartphone, record a 2 minute clip and run ads on Facebook. The cost of entry has dropped 100 fold."
So with that comment in mind, content is vitally important to your business or brand.
But you cannot just exist with content alone. You have to build connections along the way.
What do I mean by that, you ask?
CONNECTIONSYou have to engage with your audience and connect with them by answering questions, asking them questions, and ultimately providing value to your community any way you can.
I was talking to a client this morning about getting videos of her nonprofit out there to her potential donors on a consistent basis. I jokingly said, "You can't keep your nonprofit a secret!" She laughed and then agreed with me!
I think that the word CONNECTIONS in the
plural format
is important. When I looked up the definition of the word, I found
Word Hippo, a site that said that the plural form of the word CONNECT means "people with whom one is acquainted who can offer help and influence."
When I think of connecting, I think of not just connecting and establishing a mere "nice to meet you and have a nice day". I think about being helpful in some sort of way.
Just like at
Boost with Facebook
this week, there was someone who asked me if I worked at Facebook. I don't know what made him think that...everyone had Facebook lanyards on with their name badge. The Facebook Staff ones were a different color blue, but I don't think he really noticed that. I could tell he was confused at something in a brochure. So I asked him if he needed help. He needed help with a QR code because he didn't know how to use his phone camera to point it at the code. That was an easy 30 seconds of my life (or less!) and he was profusely thankful for my help. Mission accomplished.
If you made it down to the bottom of this blog post, then take my challenge. I challenge you to create more content and make more connections.
Do it daily.
Don't take my advice. Take
Gary Vaynerchuk's.
Do it 64 times in a day and see what happens!
