I’m often asked, “Why should my business have a blog.” Aren’t blogs just the narcissistic rants of immature people? Will anyone read it?
I compare your social media marketing strategy to building or designing a home. Your ideal home of choice may be Victorian, New England cottage or Mediterranean (my favorite!), but all homes have certain essential elements.
Continuing with this analogy, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other networking sites are compared to your front porch or entryway; it’s where the invitation to “come on in” takes place.
Once inside, guests enter the living room, or your website’s home page. The living room should be inviting, comfortable and from there they should be easily able to access the other rooms of the house.
Similarly, your blog is the center of all other social media sites where you can come in and stay a while.
“Why are they visiting?” They’ve been invited to dinner of course. They’ve been invited over for lively and stimulating conversation.
The blog, or dining room, is where you serve up your delicious and nutritious offerings. The better the dinner, the more likely they’ll come back. So, in answer to the question, “Why blog?” I would reply, “Why would you invite your house guests over for good eats?”
A benefit of your blog to your readers is to put a personality to your business. It answers the question, “Who is the voice behind the brand?”
You’ll want your blog to be interactive so that your readers can leave comments. You’ll encourage conversations so that you engage your readers and find out more about them.
I invite you to pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee or your favorite drink, and engage with me. I’ll explore more reasons why businesses need to have a compelling, authentic, informative blog.
